Shorebirds everywhere!

I have been struggling with two big commissioned works, one pile of maps, and some nice sketches for brainstorm with a client. And in between that, I have the news of one wonderful activity coming soon: The World Shorebirds’ day.
What better thing than leave a weekend to draw birds in the field just to take a break?
To not reach with cold hands at the date, I’m sketching during breaks from work … I leave here some, scanned and cleaned:

Chorlito de collar web

Collared plover (Charadrius collaris)

Tero real 2 web

South american stilt (Himantopus melanurus)

Becasina común web

South American snipe (Gallinago paraguaiae)

  1. These are very nice drawings. Technically very accomplished. I have a much rougher sketch of one of these species coming soon.

    • Thank you! I would love to see your sketch.
I always felt like a beginner, but the hard working makes some difference thru time! je

I love birds from all countries and have several playing card and other decks with bird illustrations, and two excellent full-colour books of photographs of global birds. I really liked your drawings here Manuel.

I wonder what a bird would look like contemplating a fossil? That strikes me as a neat idea for a thematic illustration.

    • I love your idea!
It reminded me a fossil dig, here in Argentina, where vultures literally nests among dinosaur bones.
I will render something about soon for sure!

Vultures and dinosaur bones–very haunting, very paleo!
